Subject: [Leica] Travels with M6: Fort Ross Heritage Day

Fort Ross, a California State Historic Park on the Sonoma coast, celebrates
Heritage Day on the last Saturday in July. Fort Ross (shortened from
"Rossiya", i.e., "Russia") was established in 1812 to supply Russia's
Alaskan outposts; the Russians withdrew in 1841 when the otters disappeared.
The annual event attempts to reenact life at the Fort, including an Orthodox
service, trading with the Hudson Bay Company, and military activity. Most of
the re-enactors are from the nearby communities. The folkloric group "Kedry"
comes to present traditional songs and dances. Hundreds of Russians from the
San Francisco Bay area and beyond come to visit and participate. I used an
M6 with 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 90mm lenses. Images culled from four rolls of
Tri-X, shot on a typical foggy summer day, are at

I shall be grateful for comments and/or critiques.

PS The event also includes demonstrations of native fishing using baidarkas.
