Is it because they use commodity-like CCDs (as all - -but Apple- PCs us Intel or AMD chips)? If that's the reason, then all film-based cameras are alike: my M6 uses the same film my wife's EOS uses... I think cameras (film or digital) are not commodities for a variety of reasons, their lenses being one of the most important.
