Hi, Martin,

Are your thinking of the four humours:  black and yellow bile, blood and
phlegm?  I think that melancholy was thought to be a result of these being
out of balance in some way.

In reality, we now know that a major cause of melancholy is being a Buffalo
Bills fan (if only Scott Norwood would have hit that field goal against the
Giants...).
