The analogy that works for me is the tube-mic Dolby SR analog recorded audio performance. Yes, you listen to it on CD, but it absolutely sounds different than if it was recorded "all digital." There's a good reason vintage tube mics and compressors sell for so much money. They keep trying to emulate them digitally, and they're getting better, but they still don't cut it.
