It was introduced in 1994 as part of the M6J special edition, and continued in the current form. I owned one for a few years and found it to be quite excellent optically. It is very flare free...more so than the Summicron M. For the price it really is a great way to get Leica image quality in a small package. If they had only made one in LTM...
