I posted a query about this on the Dpreview "Other Digicams" formum, and received the following response from Bob K. at Panasonic USA in New Jersey: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1001&message=5664470 Basically, he said: No. It's a rumor. There is no such product. Too bad. What *does* exist is a firmware upgrade that reduced the contrast and sharpening levels somewhat, which mitigates the "posterization" issue somewhat. This is only available for cameras sold in the USA, nowhere else. No, not even for Canada. The upgrade is not user-installable--you must send the camera in to Panasonic. Interestingly, the Digilux 1 is supposed to have default contrast and sharpening levels which are one "notch" below the LC5, so a level of 0 on the Digilux equals -1 on the LC5. So the firmware upgrade may bring the LC5 to a similar place where the Digilux started. If you want to read more about this, go to dpreview.com, forums, Other Digicams. Do a search on LC5, plus "upgrade" "update" or "firmware" (pick one for each search) and you'll find the relevant details, plus the usual Internet-enhanced discussion. - --Peter Klein Seattle - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
