[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]My understanding is that the various numbers you see associated with image sensors such as 2/3 and 1/1.8 etc. are holdovers from the days of video cameras which used analog glass tube (photomultipliers ?) sensors. These numbers refer to the outer diameter of the long glass envelope of the tube. The actual size of CCDs is much smaller than these designations. It also has nothing to do with the aspect ratio. dan c.
