Y'know I used LTM cameras from 1946 to 1959 without
trimming commercial film. Kodak, Ansco, and Agfa. I used
the leader as it came without taping it to the spool. I thought
the film trimmers were only used to prepare bulk loaded film.

I never had a problem using commercially packaged film.
