Hi Ruddy.  Thanks for the clues.  A picture is starting to develop ....

To answer your question, I remain happy with my R8s and their lenses 
and accessories, as one would with their children - despite the things 
they get up to.  ;-)

I've had an amazing experience with nine or so R8s, ones I've owned and 
ones on loan - just about everything that could go wrong has.  But is 
this any different from other pro systems?  From what I hear, Nikon and 
Canon users are having just as much fun with their gear.  This is the 
reason I decided to relax about it last year and buy another R8 (at a 
very good price when the R9 was being introduced), so I'd have a spare, 
with an R6.2 as double backup.

The R8 is the ideal reflex camera to me, so I'll just have to live with 
it's foibles.  Still, it shouldn't rip up film.
