What this all adds up to is: 1. A 10 mpg manual focus digital camera that costs $6000 new, or $5000 with a used body. 2. A 10 mgp digital manual focus camera that is not only not designed to be a digital camera, it is a Rube Goldberg contraption. 3. A 10 mgp digital camera that will come out, at best, a year to 18 months from now, by which time the standard - for those of you who eschew anything but the finest conceivable image quality - will be at least 15, if not 20 mgp. 4. A 10 mgp digital camera 12-18 months from now that does NOT have a full-size sensor - and weren't a good number of you explaining to me recently why anything less than a full-size sensor would spell Nikon's demise? 5. A camera LUGers will be lining up to buy, using, and pronouncing it to be producing the best images they have ever seen. SHQGTM! :-) B. Looks as if the following is true- 1- It will be a Back for the R8/R9 (Pick up a mint R8 now for about $1000.00 USA if you want a whole camera!) 2- But you'll have a year or so before it hits the shelf - so you can save and take your time. 3 - it will be a 10 to 11 mega pixel, 1.3x magnification factor (like Canon's 1D) and the company IMACON (!) - the folks that make those great high end scanners - will assist in manufacture of the sensor, software etc. That's pretty good news! 4- Possibly a new 16mm or 17mm lens will be announced in 2004 fall designed for it. 5- Leica "will take great effort" to make sure that the quality of Leica glass is noticed with this new sensor (whatever that is) which includes not only a new angle on what of and how the sensor will be made, but the firmware itself. 6- BEST --- it should be around --- $4000.00 USD For the rest, we all have to wait for the chat. If another Mayonnaise Jar appears, I'll let you know (unless, there's just mayonnaise in it!) :-) Ed - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
