[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]i went to the opening of the Louis Faurer show at the philadelphia museum of art yesterday and was duely impressed. typically today street photography seems to be a rather random popping of the shutter as events unfold, but faurer, photographing with a 35mm kodak in the 40's and onward was not afraid to leap into people's faces and purposfully frame a shot. some of his composition is exquisite -- not random street moments, but rather found images among the hustle and bustle of new york, philadelphia, and paris. in the 1970's faurer got "discovered" and started doing assignments for vogue and flash. much of his color work falls flat. in the way of weegee, i think, once he was identified as an "artist" he stopped following the direction of his heart and instead began to take images which he hoped would please new york. his early photos though, are definately worth the price of admission if you fancy yourself a street photographer and happen to be in the city of brotherly love. i was pleased to see some of the philadelphia art mafia at the opening, and celeberties like philly's own David Graham. but NO LUGGERS! what's with that?! kyle - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
