Yes I agree, just stating that I'm not one of them. I believe If you have
something it should be used as intended. Hey if it gets damaged or broken
have it fixed or cover it with insurance and have it replaced. I have all
my stuff insured with my home and it is covered for replacement value. I
had to use this last year when lightning destroyed one of my ham radios and
a few other household electronics. Works great and I don't worry about my
toys.

I know there are some users who really "use" their Leicas, Gene - But I
think that that vast majority of current Leica users tend to baby their
Leicas.

I agree, Leicas should be able to operate in adverse conditions and not
leak water and dust etc.

As for todays users not using them in adverse conditions, I use mine no
matter what the conditions. Since I have bought my M6TTL it has spent
many hours in the rain and snow and so far it has held up and has not
leaked at all. My R4SP and Leicaflex SL over the past 15 years have
both been used in the woods on hiking trips and in the So. Cal. deserts,
in the snow and bounced around in jeeps and they just keep ticking. So
I guess I'm one of those who expects his Leica to go anywhere.

Uh, why not? What would it take to seal off the viewfinder? I would
contend that a $2000 camera body could indeed be properly sealed in
terms of the viewfinder, and preventing moisture, dust, etc, from
getting in around openings in the top plate.

On the other hand, very, very few of today's Leica users subject their
cameras to environmental hazards.;-)
