I play one of the ultra-violent first person shooter games (Unreal
Tournament 2003) and the community of players is not unlike the LUG.
There are some idiots and some very nice guys. Among the better players
in fact courtesy is de rigeur. Games are preceded by typing GL HF (Good
Luck... have fun) and if someone kills you with a spectacular shot you
might type 'n1' for 'Nice one'. Killing someone while they are typing a
message is a big no-no and regarded as unsportsmanlike. At the end of
the game most people will type "GG" for 'Good game' and congratulate
anyone who did particularly well. Noobs (newbies) sometimes come in for
a hard time but that is true of the LUG as well.

Of course the first time you play it all you see are the exploding
giblets but the effect of that soon wears off and it becomes more like
a very fast paced game of chess.
