You have encountered a feature: the parallax correction built into the rangefinder to account for the difference between the ranger-finder's optical axis and that of the lens/film plane. When standing close to your subject the camera corrects for the offset between the two sight-lines in order to give you accurate framing. And yes, it is much more noticeable when using a tripod. Of course you are one of the .000001% of M photographers who actually USE a tripod (to others: that's a JOKE, son, I say it's a JOKE).
