If I buy anything in the US I pay whatever the (confusing and complicated:)) tax is. If I buy mail order I pay no tax to the vendor but import duty and VAT on its arrival in the UK. Anything I buy in the EU I pay the advertised price which, as in everywhere but North America AFAIK, includes tax and that's it. hadn't realised what a can of worms I was opening when I started this!!
