So true. When I was in college, my photo professor, who was an absolute
tyrant, did teach us about light meters; he made everyone buy a Weston
Euromaster and a Kodak Gray Card. We had to carry that bloomin' gray card
with us everywhere we went, and he always made us meter off the card. I
remember he said, "whatever it is that you measure with that meter will be
middle gray in your picture." Most everything else he tried to hammer into
our heads I tried desperately to forget, but what a light meter does wasn't
one of them. I always remembered that whatever you meter in the scene will
be middle gray in your picture.
