Then these peculiar (wind-beaten) trees just lured me further and further on. I followed Kodak's recommendations for Xtol 1:1 (9 minutes at 68 F). I use a four reel tank. I put film on the bottom two and put two empty reels over them. Then I use just enough developer to cover the bottom two. When I invert the tank (twice every 30 seconds), the developer totally uncovers the bottom two reels with film and then covers them back up with fresh solution. For me, Kodak's times seem a little short, but I can see that would do just fine for someone else. Such things are a matter of taste and routine. It's probably "hats off to Kodak". They've succeeded in retooling and securing a long future for b&w with the new Tri-X. It's Tri-X, no revolution ... other than the revolution involved with investing in a film production process when the vogue is digital.
