[Leica] Trivia Tuesday Answer

Dear LUG'ers--

Well, Trivia Tuesday came and went, and here we have the question and
answer, in case you were sitting on the edge of your seat wondering what it
was.

We had four winners ... to win, you had to give the date, which all three
provided with Summicron-like accuracy, as well as the reason for the
camera's not being in the picture, which most of the three had close enough
to qualify (a little fuzzier, perhaps with a Lux a bit out of focus). One of
the other entrants gave a creative answer that was so off-base and
off-the-wall that I laughed out loud and decided to award a prize for
silliness, if nothing else. His rangefinder patches weren't aligned at all.

So thanks to all who entered! The new trivia tidbit for this next week will
appear on our site later today, and you'll have until next Tuesday at the
stroke of midnight, to answer.

Trivia Tuesday for March 11, 2003

Trivia Tuesday Question: Can you provide the date for this advertisement?
And why does the ad show a photograph of the model, rather than an image of
the products it intends to promote? In other words, where's the Leica?

Answer: This picture shows one of the last Leitz advertisements during the
Second World War, and dates from 1942. Because there were no cameras
available for sale during the war, there were no Leica models to show in the
image, and Leitz decided not to picture the camera, but instead to present
the image of the two happy subjects.
