Barrel distortion with superwides, especially (makes sign of cross) zooms, is a real bugbear. The Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L zoom, an otherwise very superior lens, has egregious barrel distortion wide open that has to be corrected for many subjects. The distortion becomes particularly apparent when, as many digital photographers do, you correct for perspective as in a LF camera. This is when you start realizing the virtues of Leica lenses, and primes in general. Fortunately barrel distortion can be corrected in Photoshop using the panotools suite. Here's a horrible example of uncorrected barrel distortion in the above lens: http://www.johnbrownlow.com/independence/source/independence0443.html Here's one where it's been corrected http://www.johnbrownlow.com/independence/source/independence0355.html On Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at 12:22 AM, Slobodan Dimitrov wrote: > Frankly, worrying about distortion with a wide angle lens is somewhat > of > a princess and the pea concern. - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
