Each of these lenses has its unique characteristics, and individual lenses of the same marque and manufacturing run can differ from one another. Just go look in the archives for discussions of the "Skinny" 90 Tele-Elmarit if you want to learn about a lens which appears to vary wildly from one unit to another. It is most likely that every lens Leica has ever made has its fan or fans who swear it is their one and only true love, even the dreadful 135mm f/2.8 with eyes. Oops, there I go again... In truth, there is no substitute for experience; that is for trying different lenses. You can hit up your friends...you can go through a trading frenzy at your local dealer's, you can rob a collector. At the end of the day, nobody else can tell you what lens will have the character or "glow" that you favor. My personal favorite is the last spherical 35mm Summicron made in Canada, but B.D. hates that lens. My favorite lenses are ones that I bought simply because they were the current model being shipped by Leica at the time of purchase. They are my favorites because I have used them a lot and I understand and can exploit their idiosyncrasies. My ultimate advice, therefore, is not to agonize over lens characteristics, but to make an informed and economical judgment and then go out and get to know the lens and how best to use it, whichever model and unit you ultimately acquire.
