[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]Tina - The need for large file sizes is NOT exaggerated if you want to produce decent size prints at good resolution. First off, while newspapers can and do use small files because they print at low resolution, I know that when I wrote and shot a story for Newsday last summer, they wanted files of 11 meg, which while not huge, are hardly small. And while we all think chromes and high-res when we think of magazines, I'd be surprised to learn than Newsweek is printing at 300 dpi - and it wouldn't surprise me to learn that the res. on their cover is lower than that. The fact that you sold a Digilux file to Newsweek - Congrats by the way, on the Newsweek sale! :-) - hardly tells us anything about digital, Digilux, or anything other than the fact that you're an excellent photographer. After all, at least one Pulitzer Prize for spot news photography went to a photo shot with a Kodak Brownie. Not wanting to be a pain in the ass - much - but I think this might be a time for us to be reminded that you do work for Leica, including making presentations on the Digilux. The reality here is that the Digilux is a high-end digital P&S, which some people love and which some reviewers don't love - but whether it is or isn't a great P&S, it is hardly a camera that most photojournalists would consider as a main digital camera. With all due respect and admiration for your outstanding abilities as a photographer, and for your wonderful qualities as a person and as a LUG anchor. :-) B. One of best selling news photographers said that he always shoots at the highest possible compression because the time between photos is so much shorter and so many more photos fit on a card. He says that the smallest size files have been used as magazine covers with no problems. I sold a Digilux file to Newsweek!! ;-) Tina Tina Manley, ASMP http://www.tinamanley.com photos available from: http://www.pdiphotos.com http://www.mira.com http://www.agpix.com http://www.newscom.com - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
