Gotcha. I should know this stuff. When I was in college I had a summer job
working on a line making circuit boards. Actually, silkscreening the green
stuff that masks out the silver for the solder. I'm sure no one would
consider making such a thing now, twenty years later, for some outdated old
thing. Poor M6. (Don't get me wrong; I love the '6) ;-)

Kit... electronics parts.. specifically the chips... are made on a process
line. When the manufacturer closes the line, it is like trying to make a
1949 car in 2003.... impossible because all the process steps are wrong.
While this is a worst case scenario, the best you could do right now is to
purchase the chips while they are available.... the alternative is the PC
board with chips on it.....

Regardless of 20 years of production, the chip business is such that
typically within about 5 years, the chips just can not be built any more.
Leica probably buys sufficient spares for several years... but remember
that a gear can be made any time in the future... a chip can not.
Close/alternative Replacements are impossible.

I will mention the final alternative... scavenge parts form another body.
This is done even for the LTM cameras....
