This is an international affair but is no where near as big a deal as Photokina. My best guess as to what will happen. Canon will announce two new prosummer DLR's, one will essentially be a replacement for the D60 but with less magnification of the lens. The second is unknown. Money is evenly divided on an 8MP or so full frame and what you mentioned, a replacement with more resolution of the 1D. With production of the D60 stopped more than 30 days ago I suspect that the new camera's will be shipping immediately. I am fairly certain that anybody with a valid order with Canon received the D60 they ordered. As to Nikon, it is interesting what they will be doing. They were very late shipping D100's, the first ones had serious problems in firmware, color balance, and reliability. At this time, most dealers have several in stock for immediate delivery. I would be careful if you go the Nikon route to get a late serial number and go to the Nikon site and download the firmware upgrade. I would also look at the Fuji S2, after memory and software it is about the same price as the D100 and seems to have largely worked out of the box. My general advice to anyone not actively earning their living with a camera is to wait three to six months for some dust to settle. Nikon is going the route with Kodak and Olympus to work out the issues using a smaller imaging chip. If they can repeal physics then there are advantages to smaller "film" Lenses can be sharper, cameras can be smaller, apertures can be wider. Also, Kodak indicates that they will actually start shipping their 14MP camera sometime in February. Then there is Foveon. 4 cents this time.
