Noel, the series polarizers were intended to be used in certain lens 
hoods that had a small wheel on the side to turn the polarizer.

The only other practical use I've found for one is to put one (in 
this case, a Series VII) in a 12504 hood for various E39 lenses, and 
take it off, look through it for the effect and clip it one again in 
the same position. Worked very well.
