And the cameras are beautiful objects, apart from their marvelous function. Works of art, for sure. Appreciating all the time. I could put some of these items in storage and pull them out in two or three or five years and see a considerable appreciation on my investment. There are dealers who do this all the time. I see lots of folks really denigrating the collectors on the LUG and elsewhere, but they haven't thrown their money away. Maybe they don't use the cameras, maybe they let them sit in the boxes and wait for them to age, like good wine. But I doubt that a "lack of sense" is motivating their purchase. The underlying motivation for purchasing Leica, whether as a collector piece or as a tool for making great pictures is the same. The quality, or reputation for quality. That's where the value is for both buying audiences. I'm not trying to be an uncritical horn-tooter for Leica, or for collectors, but if they weren't mighty cool cameras, and worthy of collecting, we wouldn't be here talking about them so much! ;-) K. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us]On Behalf Of bdcolen Sent: Wednesday, February 05, 2003 4:53 PM To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: RE: [Leica] Re: M 50mm f/2.0 50 Year Summicron No, not "collector's item" - rigid Summicron #03 is a collector's item - THIS is a "collectible," for people with far too much money and far too little sense. :-) - -----Original Message----- From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us] On Behalf Of Kit McChesney | Acmefoto Sent: Wednesday, February 05, 2003 5:50 PM To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: RE: [Leica] Re: M 50mm f/2.0 50 Year Summicron Well, it's not for everyone. Limited edition, retro look, large price. Collector's item. Just like anything made in small batches. Or with special features. Mink-carpeted jags cost more, too! ;0) - -----Original Message----- From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us]On Behalf Of bdcolen Sent: Wednesday, February 05, 2003 3:01 PM To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: RE: [Leica] Re: M 50mm f/2.0 50 Year Summicron Yup...Same optics, same performance - only the price is ludicrous...:-) - -----Original Message----- From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us] On Behalf Of Kit McChesney | Acmefoto Sent: Wednesday, February 05, 2003 4:48 PM To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: RE: [Leica] Re: M 50mm f/2.0 50 Year Summicron This may help. From our marketing manager at Leica USA: "The construction and optical performance are identical to those of the actual Summicron 50mm, but its design is inspired by the first non-collapsible Summicron, which came on the market in the mid fifties." Sounds as if we are talking about the same furniture, in a retro house. ;-) K. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us]On Behalf Of bdcolen Sent: Wednesday, February 05, 2003 2:20 PM To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: RE: [Leica] Re: M 50mm f/2.0 50 Year Summicron Better image than the current Summicron 50? - -----Original Message----- From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us] On Behalf Of Lucien Sent: Wednesday, February 05, 2003 3:59 PM To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: Re: [Leica] Re: M 50mm f/2.0 50 Year Summicron bdcolen wrote: > Wow!
