It's true.  The sun can indeed burn holes in your cloth shutter.  My first
camera was a Hexacon ZI (Contax D), which had a non-returning mirror.
http://www.praktica-collector.de/095a_Hexacon_ZI.htm  After each photo, the
mirror would remain in the up position, leaving the cloth shutter curtain
exposed.  In the years I used this camera in the tropics, I ended up with
several holes in the shutter curtain, which were patched with bits of
curtain cut from an old Minolta SR7.
