AFAIK Jim Marshall, probably the best known photographer of the world of rock, used Tri-X rated at ISO800; his technical issues are discussed at http://www.marshallphoto.com/mp.v1/content/Technical.html which also shows his well used M that Leica featured in one of their brochures a few years ago.
