It has to be shot at 64 to get equivalent shadow detail, but it should make a decent replacement. The highlight separation issue is visible even in smaller enlargements. VP was not overly sensitive to blue; it is a pure pan film from the 50s. The original Verichrome was an ortho film (it's in some of my Mortensen books), which was, if I recall, a 32-ASA film. So if the subsitute is blue-sensitive, it would have to be something of an atavism.
