The truth is that Nikon Industries, for example, would love to get out of the camera business, it is NOT profitable for them, especially Digicams which has a very slim (if any) profit margin. Nikon's film cameras by comparison has a large profit margin so you can count on seeing film cameras around for a long time. Nikons problem is that their international image is irrevocably tied to cameras, even though their other divisions are much more profitable.
