Subject: [Leica] Leica and digital

Interesting how my original post got twisted into digital vs. film.

Its good to know others here are concerned about a Leica move
into digital.

I don't want to go into the merits of digital over film or vice-versa,
but I did want to go into the increase in sales digital has meant to
the camera makers and film manufacturers. Yes, Kodak and Fuji
were supposed to be making and selling as much or more film as
before the "digital" boom.

Why can't Leica tap into this market with its own digital. Something
other than the P&S they already sell. It would seem the R8/9 is an
ideal starting point. Match a digital back produced by someone else,
Sigma, Kodak come to mind here. Why wouldn't Kodak like to see
the results of combining Leica optics to their sensors? I've mounted
R lenses on my EOS1D and was startled by the results...the smooth
rich tones are incredible. Much more pleasing than the sharp and
contrasty Canon optics (which I still like ;-). Its just so hard to get
the lens adaptor off the lenses.

Well, hopefully someone at Leica keeps track of what is said in this
forum and knows there are more than a few waiting for a true Leica
digital.

Regards,
Dave Strang
