"Clean" has absolutely nothing to do with resolution. You can get a
perfectly sharp ("clean") image from a TWO pixel image, one pure black and
one pure white. You simply can't get sharper than that...but it has
absolutely NO resolution to speak of.

Judging image quality from 72PPI web images is really not very scientific.
You also don't know how good the actual film image is to begin with, how
well it was scanned etc.
