But I would also hope that you - or anyone else - would want to know that a so-called "independent" expert on any subject is paid by the producer of the material they analyze. Would you want to know that a literary critic was receiving money from a major publisher, and would that knowledge effect your judgment of the critic's reviews? Would you want to know that a restaurant critic's work on a restaurant guidebook was underwritten by the owners of a chain of restaurants? Would you want to know that an automotive expert's book about the Mercedes line was underwritten by Mercedes? If you can answer 'no' to all those questions, then I understand why you don't have any interest in knowing if an independent optical experts' writing about Leica lenses is underwritten by Leica. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us]On Behalf Of Beddoe, Neil Sent: Thursday, September 26, 2002 11:42 AM To: 'leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us' Subject: RE: [Leica] Downloadable Erwin Puts Book Nope. You are absolutely right, I don't understand the significance. I'm going to read Erwin's pamphlet on the train home which should help the 40 minutes pass quite pleasantly. Then I'm going to walk along the riverbank with my camera and see if I can get a nice picture of some swans and ducks untroubled by the integrity of the MTF charts for my Summicron. Not that you have to, but because you don't understand or care, doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.
