This week, much of my time was consumed with the various tasks related to getting it removed, and keeping rain out of the house in the meantime. For starters, here is a shot of the damage. http://www.sonc.com/limb_down.htm We had to rent a crane from 60 miles away capable of lifting the limb off the house without damaging the roof further. We had been lucky, I guess, only seven punctures to the roof, and just two rafters broken. But of course, after weeks of drought, the days after it fell were rainy. Here's the view of the removal: http://www.sonc.com/crane_tree.htm The best tree guy in town is someone I've known a long time, who also moved to Natchitoches as a grown-up. Wayne Walker and I went to Junior High School together in Bossier City in 1958. http://www.sonc.com/wayne_saws.htm One aside, one reason the limb chose last weekend to fall was that we had a considerable rain after a prolonged drought. The tree sucked up water, and the now-brittle branch with a weak spot near the trunk cracked from the weight. Here's a shot of the end of a portion draining water after it was cut apart. http://www.sonc.com/water_tree.htm Back to people shots next week, I hope.
