Yosemite is many places besides the valley. I would suggest that too much is shot there looking up and not enought looking down or across. The higher elevations, if still accessible, such as Tuloumne Meadows offer wonderful opportunities. Going off season does help with crowds. As to Mono lake, some people recommend (here come the flames) filters. In particular the blue/gold polarizing filter has been called by some the "Mono Lake Filter". It can easily be overdone but with restraint- wonderful. Be aware of post sunset Alpen Glow and the wonders there in. A side trip to the Bodie ghost town may not be all that productive unless you can get there in the morning or evening. Yes, the shadows are dark and the sky is bright. Perhaps a neutral gradient can help keep clouds under control. At the higher elevations a warming filter can be an asset. There is a lot of UV up there. After all that....dress in layers, bring lots of film and have fun. Oh yeah, don't wear any bacon, the bears love that stuff (:-}) John - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
