Some theory and it will (I hope) save us many days of hot discussions, unsubscriptions and similarly childish acts.. :P 1.) Klez is a virus, which CAN potentially activate itself if a user of OUTLOOK click on it and wants to display a message. 2.) If run, despite other devastating actions, Klez will take RANDOM ADRESSES from Outlook's Address Book and send emails via his own post client, using one RANDOM name from Address Book as a sender, other RANDOM name as a target. 3.) Klez will also SPREAD via Windows network So: 1.) If you see a letter from LUG or Brad Daly or Doug Herr, or me, it may be really a letter from ANYONE having my (or LUG or Brad or Doug) email in address book 2.) If you want to use Outlook Express, UPGRADE to version 6.0 AND select checkbox 'Do not allow to open unsafe attachments' or sth like this in Tools -> Options -> Security 3.) As, as you say, this letter came from 'LUG', it was sent by someone having a LUG in his address book. I suggest everyone running Windows and Outlook, to run this tool: http://watteau.neurosoft.net/mysite/kleztool/ I mirrored from Kaspersky Lab. preferably shuttinmg down other programs. I have a slow computer and can accept only 4 connections at once, if you can't get it, just wait a minute :) 4.) Do NOT open mails 'Klez Removal Tools' - this is (definitely funny) version of Klez, masking itself az a anti-klez soft :) And finally - having a virus is no dishonour :) and friends should help themselves in battling them - just like in case of veneric diseases :) - -- St. (XS360 Diesel - Sampo Lappelil, ¬liMC) http://www.familyofman2.com GH !d a- C--- E---- W+++ N+++ PS+++ !tv b+++ D++ e++ h* r% - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
