It's the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Salute, aka the Church of St. Mary of Health and Salvation, built by the Venetians in the mid 1600s as a sacrifice to the Virgin Mary for delivering them from the plague. There is a commemorative festival in November, when the quality of autumnal light on the lagoon is specially misty and evocative.
