Speaking of accents - One of the more fascinating American accent anomalies
is found on Long Island, outside NYC...The Island is about 140 miles long,
from the East River - yes, Brooklyn is part of Long Island, whether
Brooklanders admit it or not - to Montauk point. While the Island is know
for it's gawdawful ugly accent which combines the more hideous aspects of
Brooklyn and Bronx "English," which are, of course, the worst stews of all
Eastern and Western European accents combined ;-) - if you head way out onto
the Island, particularly along the North Fork, you find among the natives,
particularly those who have been there since long before the post-WWII
influx of white flight from the city - accents that have far more in common
with Maine and New Hampshire that with Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Hi Dave:

I've read that the Boston accent is remarkably like that of East Anglia
in the old country. So maybe we're speaking English and you're not! :)
