I've gone through the same thing. My solution was to get a Leica SF 20 flash [you can find them for under $200 on eBay] and rig up a plastic mirror at a 45 degree angle to the bulb, using duct tape. I received a buncha guff from the usual suspects here, but it works well with the M6 TTL and the faster glass.
