Other than the price, it seemed everyone liked it. Leica introduced a couple of years later, the M6 w/ a.85 viewfinder. Internally, they are basically identical. So, if you want "today's" M6J get a .85 M6, .85 M6TTL, or a .85 M7 (when available). When, M3s came in for viewfinder replacement, M6J finders were used, simply because the supply of original M3 type finders ran out. If there are no more M6J finders, than they have been replaced the current .85 piece. Leica Germany did recently consider making a meterless M camera and rejected it.
