Darrell, after talking to a tech for the Frontier's, and assuming that there
really is no grain in the scan which there should not be on Kodachrome then
it is conceivable that noise is entering the picture via the cables
connecting the computer to the printer. It is unlikely with the short
cabling common to home environments but the Frontier use special cables and
grounding to prevent noise in the system. In the Frontier system the
printer may be many feet from the scanning section.

I would try another set of cables to the printer and also some of those
ferrules that goes around the cables to prevent noise.

I also confirmed the 5000 dpi for the scanner, but that is the full width
which 35mm doesn't cover. Also that is 5000R, 5000G, and 5000B from a
stationary source as the film is pulled past the CCD's.

Hope something here helps.

Oh, try taking a CD of the scan to someplace that can print a JPG which
should be anyplace with a Kodak Picture Maker or a Fuji Aladdin and see if
an 8X10 has any noise. That will confirm the quality of the scan.
