It may have been a weak battery or a substitute. The CL was designed for the Mallory PX 625 battery, which delivers 1.35 volts. This battery is banned in the US and the there is not a 1.35v that will substitute. I have used the Criscam MR-9 adaptor and the silver 76 battery, available at www.criscam.com and the adaptor reduces the 1.5v of the 76 battery to the original specifications. More serious is the fact that the light sensor does not last forever and has been known to degrade. This apparently is happening to many of the CLs recently and the sensor is not inexpensive to replace. If you are getting significant overexposure in bright backgrounds and passable overexposure in dim backgrounds this may be the problem.
