Truth is after shooting mainly medium format for a few months now I'm only recently back to dong a lot of work with my Leica. The new Noctilux has certainly helped and turned my head around on this whole photography thing. Also I've made a huge resurgence with my darkroom and not been scanning and Inkjetting. I've got a new 16x20 4 bladed easel. New 16x20 trays. I've had a ball designing and building 8 26x36 print drier screens and most of all a rack to keep and use them in. Also a system of boards for flattening fiber prints from 8x10 to 20x24. All of which i plan to photograph and stick on my nerdy website in the darkroom geek section. Plans and all. So this photographing of my renovated darkroom (got a new 18 ft. rubber mat!) I'd be leaning on doing with my Hasselblad. Walking on cement is not picnic for my 50 year old ligaments. This rubber mat might end up being my most cherished piece of high tech gear. Barefoot printing at midnight in the rain! Last week I shot 4 rolls of Kodak E100 VS film and edited 4 shots from it to send to San Antonio to Bill Grimwood where i am still going to as far as i know in 2 weeks for the Leica Historical Society meeting. Walked 4 miles coming back from Mt. Tabor here in Portland on the east side. So that's a roll a mile which ended up being a slide a mile. All wide open only a very few stopped down a few because it was too bright or i HAD to get some Depth of field. F 1000th a second and be there! I got a solid slide page out of it of 20 slides and took 4 out of there to send. 1. Birch tree bark close-up F1 @ 250th with the Noctilux and Kodak E100 VS film. Focused at the minimum which is slightly less then a meter. 2. White picket fence with Monkey tree in the background. F1 or close to it @ 1000th with the Noctilux and Kodak E100 VS film. 3. Table at Rocco’s Pizza selective focused. Mixed lighting, daylight, tungsten and florescent. F1 @125th with the Noctilux and Kodak E100 VS film. 4. No nothin coffee shop front with Red checkered Curtain. F1 or close to it @ 1000th with the Noctilux and Kodak E100 VS film. I might have had to stop down a few because of the direct sun. I also have a dozen rolls of Black and white I've shot with the lens all set to print sitting on my big light table in my darkroom. I'll be printing them 16x20 and will really be seeing what this Leica - Noctilux thing is all about. ...be exciting to see what the other LHSA people in San Antonio people think about it. Also late breaking news for me is that i might not fly but DRIVE to San Antonio from Portland Oregon… Which means I'll be seeing about the only section of the U.S.A. That i have not seen yet. The great Southwest! Southern Idaho, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and west Texas coincidently is exactly where i have not been yet. And plan to get many shots with my Leicas and Hasselblads we're planning 6 days driving in each direction. After this trip the only states I've not been to yet would be Main, Louisiana and Mississippi and Alaska. But the whole country needs to be photographed with Leicas and Hasselblads. If you're me.
