No place to put a red filter that I am aware of. As far as I know, The rod 
you mention is meant for a diffusion filter to use when taking density 
readings with a device such as the focometer. Most people just use the 
reverse side of a print (as a dummy) and position the easel and adjust the 
magnification to get the desired image then proceed from there.
