I've enjoyed and used my Komura extender for years. Its quality isn't Leitz,
but optically it's fine.

Some time ago I got really fed up with the finder and picked up a used Tewe
35-200 mm finder off of eBay. It's not a lot smaller, but oh so much less annoying.

Subject: [Leica] Komura extender

I picked up a used (optically unmarked) Komura 2X
LTM/M tele-extender the other day. It was missing a
case, but complete with a (new) LTM/M adapter and the
unusual viewer.

I shot some test pictures on ISO 400 print film (Kodak
Ultra) using an M6ttl and an old 90/f4 LTM Elmar, and
the results were surprisingly good. Contrast was fine
and looking at the negs with a 40X magnifier shows
quite acceptable resolution - not far off the 90 by
itself. (Shooting at an indicated f8)

I was surprised by this, since the (few) comments in
the archives about this item were pretty negative. I
guess I got a good one (or a fortunate lens/extender
match).

The viewer is a triumph of design over function. While
it has a neat double-L zoom frame and parallax
adjustment, the frame is more square than the 35mm
format and the lines are relatively faint. It is also
huge (even bigger than the new Leica multi finder).

I think that the extender alone will join my LTM
travel kit. The 90/f4 is a tiny jewel and having a 180
(admittedly f8) available for a size
not-much-bigger-than an M rear lens cap will
undoubtedly be handy.
