I took numerous shots outside and inside the Omayed mosque in Damascus
in June 1971 and did not experience any problems at all. In fact, as I
recall, people kindly stood out of the way when I was framing a photo.
Likewise in a covered bazaar in the centre of Damascus.

All photos taken with an M3 using 35/1.4 Summilux, 50/1.5 Summarit, and
90/2.8 Elmarit on Kodachrome 25 or 64 and scanned about a year ago.
