I just thought that, in this particular instance, his contribution subtracted from rather than added to the presentation. For all I know he was having an off day.....or maybe his good points were clumsily edited out (perhaps by whoever chose that abysmal background music track). - --To B.D. Colen: I think 'Looking Back at You' would be a good choice for your students. I am particularly glad I saw "Looking Back at You' before going to the current Salgado exhibit (Migrations) at the ICP in New York City in June. The photography is mostly awe-inspiring standing alone, but I did like the feel for the man and his techniques and points of view that I got from my advance preparation, including the video. - --Today I picked up the Sept/Oct issue of American Photographer. It includes a piece on Salgado, and again I'll say I got more from this short interview and selection of prints than I got from 'Spectre of Hope'. I found this quote particularly interesting.....(this could be the beginning of another thread) (and if so I hope someone will change the title)...and I hope I'm not violating a copyright by repeating it: Q: What does black and white do for you that color does not? A: It's more subtle. And with the darkroom work I can reproduce what I felt while I was shooting. Color is too real, too crude. Black and white allows you to have a degree of imagination. - --Regards to all, Bob
