Erwin doesn't provide MTF figures in his book for the individual lenses, probably because, as he points out, they tend to confuse more than inform outside the realm of specialists. He does mention lp/mm figures for a few lenses in his descriptions, including the aforementioned 90, which he says is one of the very best lenses Leica has ever made. A handful of lenses are so sharp that they are diffraction limited, with resolutions surpassing 500 lp/mm! That will leave even Technical Pan in the dust. Don't count on getting that handheld, though! > Sorry I don't have the book yet , can you make > a small debrief for us ? It is a very nice hardbound volume well worth the $60 or so I paid for it. The author describes the history of lens design and construction at Leica, the principles of lens design itself, and of course the characteristics of each of the lenses that Leica has made, from the most common to the most rare. He says he has actually tested them all, which must have been quite a project. I haven't finished reading the book by any means but it looks great so far.
