Just as long as you don't also take a reading with the meter in your camera.
Check the archive and you'll see we said someone said or said someone said:

a photographer with one meter knows how much light there is.
a Photographer with two meters is not so sure.

Same as with watches…

Me i think if you were out with slow film and a tripod a spot meter might be a
cool thing to work with if it not for the fact that I'm big on filters. I switch
from red to green to polarizer and the meter in my M6s takes care of that issue.
While with a spot meter you've got to remember to filter factor or stick the
same filter over it when you take the reading.
Because of this i tend to rely on my M meter when I'm out with my M even on a tripod.
