The first time I took the Nikon School, back in St. Louis during the '70s 
two of their best bits of metering advice were that green grass is approx 
18% grey and that if the light on the subject is the same as on the palm of 
your hand, meter off your palm and open up a stop. Works, too -- at least 
close enough for neg film when your're moving fast.
