Annie,

The meter in the M6 is a wide spot reflectance meter. There are indeed times
when it is useful to have a hand-held meter to supplement this.

I can personally recommend the Sekonic L-408. This gives you a narrower spot
meter (useful for photographing with slide film, and for landscape work), an
incident meter, and a flash meter.
